Children At Risk
An increase of 600% in the incidence of autism and a noticeable increase in the number of lukimia and brain tumor cancer cases among children would indicate that something has changed. But if you talk to the owners of Nuclear Power plants they will deny that the cancer clusters surrounding many nuclear plants has anyting to do with the constant radiation releases they expose children to. They claim that "low dose radiation" has no effect on human health. Even though no legitimate studies have been done of the long term effects of this so called low dose radiation, only logic would dictate that radiation from all sources and of all strengths effect human health.
But we can't just blame the radiation. Nuclear Power Plants also deposit deadly toxic chemicals into our environment, mainly into the waters of this planet. The toxic soup we call living today will either mutate our species to handle the poisons or it will eliminate us all together.
One thing is clear, the thought that it is too expensive to live clean soft polluting lives, is itself anti-life.
Radiation and Children: The Ignored Victims
Hundreds of U.S. industrial sites that generate nuclear electricity and manufacture nuclear weapons
regularly release radiation to our air, water and soil via the burial of wastes. These same industries are
now lobbying for permission from government to release radioactive materials for re-use in consumer
products. There is no safe radiation dose. Whether the release is accidental or allowed is
irrelevant. This dramatic surge in the release and distribution of radiation, makes it ever more clear
that we do not need a nuclear accident to cause disease....Click Here For More
The closer a child lives to a nuclear power plant, the higher risk it has to develop cancer, in particular leukaemia.
This was proven in 2007, when the so called "KiKK"-study (Childhood Cancer near Nuclear Power Plants) was realised. The KiKK-study is the most accurate and intense investigation on this issue world-wide. However, the outcome has been watered down and belittled through precise lobbying and media activities not only by the nuclear industry, but also by scientists of the German commission on radiation protection (SSK, "Strahlenschutzkommission") and even by the scientists of the survey-leading institution "Kinderkrebsregister Mainz" (KKR) themselves. Therefore, necessary decisions have been procrastinated by the responsible politicians...Click Here For More
A Survey Of Cancer In The Vicinity Of Trawsfynydd Nuclear Power Station In North Wales
The question of high cancer rates in north Wales has been one of significant debate since
one of us called attention to high levels of cancer in Wales (Busby 1994). Since then a
study funded by the Irish State of the Wales Cancer Registry small area database which
was released to Green Audit in 1996 has revealed high levels of all cancers in adults and
children in the period 1974 to 1989. Highest levels were found close to parts of the Irish
Sea coast which were contaminated with radioactive material from Sellafield...Click Here For More
Elevated Childhood Cancer Incidence Proximate to U.S. Nuclear Power Plants
Perhaps most importantly, the findings from our study should be compared with doses of
ionizing radiation. Emissions from nuclear plants can be employed, as well as levels of
various radionuclides in the air, water, food, and soil. Comparing childhood cancer risk to
in vivo levels of radioactivity offers the most valuable evidence for this type of study. An
effort is currently being made to measure radioactive strontium-90 in baby teeth at birth;
a link between trends in concentrations of this isotope and childhood cancer incidence in
Suffolk County, New York, has recently been reported. (45) Knowing in vivo levels of
manmade ionizing radiation will eventually enable case-control and prospective studies
to proceed. The strong evidence of high childhood cancer levels near nuclear plants
presented in this report indicates that such follow-up studies will be critical....Click Here For More
